Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt – Process Improvement
Understand processes. Support meaningful improvement.
Your next step in professional development
Understand Lean and Six Sigma concepts and how a process perspective, customer requirements and evidence support improvement initiatives.
What you will learn
- Lean and Six Sigma foundations
- Customer requirements and processes
- Waste and improvement opportunities
- Improvement project roles
Practical example: why does a simple customer enquiry take so long?
A fictional example developed by the Academy for orientation; it is not official PECB training material.
The situation
A service team handles familiar customer enquiries. Yet requests pass repeatedly between sales, administration and technical staff. Information is entered more than once, and missing details trigger follow-up questions. The first suggestion is to recruit more people. It is still unclear whether insufficient capacity actually explains the delay.
Look at the process
Map one enquiry from arrival to response. Mark working time, waiting, questions and handovers separately. Ask what the customer needs, which information should be available at intake, and which observations support the suspected cause. Collect concrete examples before attributing the problem to individual employees.
A useful working result
A process map and observation log make the discussion concrete. One possible experiment is a shared intake checklist. Agree beforehand how to judge its usefulness: fewer follow-up questions while maintaining complete answers. An appealing solution is not yet evidence of improvement: review what actually changes.
Why this fits the Yellow Belt
Supporting observation, data collection and a shared problem description is a useful starting point in Lean Six Sigma. Leading complex analytical projects independently requires further knowledge and experience. This example explains the practical context; the published course description and agreed syllabus remain the basis of the training.
Who is this course for?
Employees and project teams who support process improvement.
Prerequisites
No formal course prerequisites specified by PECB.
Schedule and learning format
Book the complete course as live online training or in-person training. Both formats follow the same syllabus. The two-day course covers the foundations and prepares you for the PECB exam; the exact exam date will be agreed.
- Choose your format and agree the schedule
- Work through the materials, practise and discuss your questions
- Complete the assessment and meet the credential requirements
Materials, assessment and credential
The package includes official PECB materials, training in your booked format, registration and the fee for your first PECB exam attempt. After passing the exam, you can apply for the relevant PECB credential. The credential requires a passed exam and compliance with the applicable PECB requirements.
Additional option: 4 hours of exam preparation
The information about multi-day training applies to the full online and in-person courses. The €650 preparation option includes four hours of live exam preparation for participants studying the subject independently. It does not replace a full PECB course. Please agree materials and exam booking with us in advance.

Frequently asked questions about this course
Is Yellow Belt useful if I have never led an improvement project?
Yellow Belt is an entry point for people who want to understand processes and contribute to improvement projects. You explore customer requirements, waste and project-team roles. Independently leading complex improvement projects is not the main purpose of this level.
Do I need statistics knowledge or professional experience to start?
PECB lists no formal entry requirements for this course. Teaching starts with the foundations. It helps to be willing to observe processes, discuss simple data and ask questions. You do not need a completed improvement project to begin.
What is the difference between Lean and Six Sigma?
Lean focuses particularly on customer value, flow and avoidable waste. Six Sigma examines variation and defects through structured, data-based methods. Yellow Belt provides a common foundation so that you can recognise both perspectives at work and combine them sensibly when supporting improvements.
Can I apply the learning in office or service work?
Yes. The course concerns processes and their results, rather than manufacturing alone. Handoffs, processing times or recurring queries can also provide starting points for improvement. What matters is understanding a specific workflow and describing customer requirements and observations clearly enough for others to work with them.
Are the two training days a complete Yellow Belt course?
The two-day online or classroom option is the complete course, covering the foundations and exam preparation. We agree the examination appointment with you. The separately selectable four-hour exam-preparation option is intended for participants who have already prepared and does not replace the full course.
Do I receive the PECB certificate automatically after attending?
To obtain the PECB credential, you must pass the examination and complete the certification application under the applicable requirements. Yellow Belt does not require professional or project experience, but it does require acceptance of the code of ethics. Attendance alone does not complete these steps.
Can I study and take the examination in Hungarian?
Hungarian is available as a teaching language for this PECB course. This does not mean that an examination in Hungarian is promised. We confirm the examination language and the language of the official materials separately before booking. Please state your preferred teaching language when arranging dates.
Should I book Green Belt immediately afterwards?
Green Belt is a suitable next step when you want to work systematically on improvement projects and use data and root-cause analysis more deeply. Yellow Belt provides orientation. Discuss your responsibilities and existing knowledge before progressing; collecting certificates quickly does not replace applying the methods.
