Three questions to guide your choice

Is your main concern IT services or the governance of IT?

ISO/IEC 20000 focuses on service management. ISO/IEC 38500 addresses IT governance and accountability.

Do you need to build understanding, manage or audit?

A shared foundation, a management responsibility and an audit perspective involve different learning goals.

Which decision should become easier after the course?

A concrete situation, such as service quality, responsibilities or an audit assignment, makes your choice more focused.

Start with your goal. Then choose your course.

Which learning path fits your role?

Understand IT services and assess their quality

You work in IT operations, a service desk, service management or auditing.
What you can work towards

Relevant courses and next steps

See the individual course page for prices, dates, prerequisites and completion requirements.

Full PECB courses are available live online or in person. Teaching is offered in German, English or Hungarian; examination and material languages are agreed separately. Hungarian refers to the teaching language.

The course title describes its focus. The personal PECB credential available after passing an exam depends on the relevant requirements and, where applicable, your professional experience.

Questions about choosing your course

How does service management differ from IT governance?

Service management considers how services are organised and delivered reliably. IT governance concerns the direction, accountability and oversight of IT. Both perspectives can complement each other within an organisation.

Which route fits service desk or IT operations roles?

ISO/IEC 20000 is a useful starting point when you want to understand processes and service quality together. Consider ISO/IEC 38500 when your responsibilities centre on broader decisions and accountability.

Should I choose Foundation or Lead Auditor?

Foundation builds understanding of a service management system. Lead Auditor focuses on auditing it. The key question is whether you need orientation or will take on audit responsibilities.

Which course supports collaboration between management and IT?

ISO/IEC 38500 addresses IT governance, making it relevant to accountability and oversight. The appropriate level depends on your role and existing knowledge.

Are these courses an ITIL certification?

No. The listed offers are PECB courses in ISO/IEC 20000 or ISO/IEC 38500. If you specifically need an ITIL qualification, consider that goal separately. Tell us about any existing ITIL experience during your consultation.

How should we plan training for different roles?

Start with responsibilities: who needs a shared understanding, who manages processes, and who assesses them? This helps you choose appropriate paths rather than automatically assigning the same course to everyone.

Not sure which path fits?

Tell us about your responsibilities, experience and learning goal. We will help you choose a suitable learning path.
