A fundamental understanding of ISO/IEC 38500 and comprehensive knowledge of IT governance.

Course structure and delivery

The five-day Academy programme comprises four training days and the examination. Official PECB course content is complemented by guided exercises, practical cases, in-depth study and examination preparation. Online and classroom delivery cover the same learning objectives.

Online sessions are delivered live using alfaview. The Odoo portal provides course information and materials. Dates, teaching language and classroom location are agreed before the course starts.

Materials, examination and certification

The full course includes official PECB training materials, tuition in the selected format and the first PECB examination attempt.

The course prepares you for the PECB examination for ISO/IEC 38500 IT Corporate Governance Manager. After passing the exam, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. PECB assesses eligibility and awards the credential. Depending on the credential level, additional evidence of professional and relevant practical experience is required. Attendance or a passed exam alone does not guarantee the full credential.

Frequently asked questions about this course

When is Governance Manager a better fit than Foundation?

Manager suits people who want to structure decisions and responsibilities at work, beyond understanding governance concepts. Start with a practical task, such as making approvals consistent or IT reporting clearer. Foundation is the better starting point when the terminology and relationships are still unfamiliar.

Can I enter Manager level without governance knowledge?

PECB expects a basic understanding of ISO/IEC 38500 and comprehensive IT governance knowledge. Check whether you can explain decision rights, accountability and oversight using your own example. If that is difficult, a foundation phase is preferable to relying entirely on exam preparation during the Manager course.

Which course version and materials will Governance Manager use?

PECB states that updates to the existing Manager course have been discontinued and a newer version may be available on request. Course version, official materials and examination alignment therefore need confirmation before the date is finalised. The Foundation course's update status cannot automatically be applied to Manager.

Where should I start if IT decision rights are unclear?

Choose one recurring decision, such as approving software. Record who requests it, assesses the business case, owns the budget and makes the final decision. Discuss unclear points with those involved. This small decision map is often a more useful learning project than redesigning every corporate committee at once.

Which measures are useful for an initial governance discussion?

Start with the decision a report should support. For an IT investment, progress towards benefits, open risks and pending decisions may be more helpful than task counts alone. Agree an owner for each measure and a response if the result develops unfavourably.

Must our organisation implement all of COBIT to improve governance?

Do not equate governance learning with introducing an entire framework. COBIT distinguishes governance from management and considers enterprise needs. As an initial practical step, examine one clear gap in decision-making. That gives you a basis for judging which additional structure is actually needed.

Are course attendance and the regular Manager credential the same?

No. The course prepares you for the PECB examination; PECB decides on certification based on the application and required evidence. Keep a clear record of your governance work. Completing training alone replaces neither the examination nor the experience required for the credential you apply for.

Why is Governance Manager five days at ELA?

Five days describes the ELA offering with four teaching days and the examination, not every PECB standard agenda. We agree the detailed schedule and confirmed course version beforehand. You can attend live online or in person and arrange the teaching language separately.
