Six Sigma Green Belt – DMAIC and Process Improvement
Use data to improve business performance.
Your next step in professional development
Explore the DMAIC improvement cycle and the use of data to analyse causes, evaluate solutions and sustain process improvements.
What you will learn
- DMAIC and project structure
- Measurement and root cause analysis
- Statistical foundations
- Improvement and control
Practical example: four minutes faster, but is the process really better?
A fictional Academy example using constructed data; it is neither a client case nor official PECB training material.
The situation
A team trials an intake checklist to close customer enquiries faster. It records elapsed operating minutes from complete intake to response for 20 enquiries before the change and another 20 afterwards. In this example, the mean falls from 22 to 18 minutes: a reduction of four minutes, or approximately 18.2 percent.
Ask the questions that matter
Start with Define and Measure: which enquiries are in scope, and is time measured consistently? In Analyze, consider whether case complexity, workload or staffing could explain the difference. These are separate enquiries, not matched pairs. A small before-and-after comparison alone establishes neither causation nor a lasting, stable improvement.
Turn the finding into a testable proposal
For Improve, propose a limited pilot with suitable comparison conditions. For Control, decide who will monitor times, follow-up questions and answer quality, and when action is needed. The working result is a decision brief explaining the measurement definition, findings and unanswered questions. It should also identify the additional evidence needed before a wider rollout.
The Green Belt connection
The example illustrates DMAIC, data interpretation and improvement evaluation, without proving effectiveness or replacing project experience. Published course and PECB requirements apply; no extra hours or certification are promised.
| Measure | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Number of enquiries | 20 | 20 |
| Total elapsed time | 440 minutes | 360 minutes |
| Mean | 22 minutes | 18 minutes |
| Minimum to maximum | 18–26 minutes | 14–22 minutes |
Who is this course for?
Quality professionals, operations teams, process owners and improvement project leaders.
Prerequisites
Subject knowledge appropriate to the course level is recommended. Specific PECB entry requirements will be checked before booking.
Schedule and learning format
Book the complete course as live online training or in-person training. Both formats follow the same syllabus. The five-day PECB agenda comprises four training days and an exam on day five or at a separately agreed time.
- Choose your format and agree the schedule
- Work through the materials, practise and discuss your questions
- Complete the assessment and meet the credential requirements
Materials, assessment and credential
The official PECB materials, training in the booked format, registration and the fee for the first PECB examination attempt are included. After passing the examination, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. The full PECB Certified Six Sigma Green Belt credential requires additional professional experience and Six Sigma project activities. Candidates without the required experience may qualify for the Provisional Green Belt credential after passing the examination. PECB assesses the evidence and awards the credential.
Additional option: 4 hours of exam preparation
The information about multi-day training applies to the full online and in-person courses. The €650 preparation option includes four hours of live exam preparation for participants studying the subject independently. It does not replace a full PECB course. Please agree materials and exam booking with us in advance.

Live online sessions take place via alfaview. Your Odoo learning portal brings together course information and materials.
Teaching and examination language
Teaching languages: German, English or Hungarian. The selected teaching language is confirmed when scheduling the course. Hungarian is a teaching language for this PECB course only and is not a promised examination language. The examination language and the language of official PECB materials are agreed separately before booking.

Frequently asked questions about this course
Do I need a Yellow Belt before joining?
The appropriate entry level depends on your knowledge and experience with processes. Our Green Belt course recommends relevant prior knowledge; we check the specific participation conditions before booking. Tell us whether you have already worked with improvement projects, performance indicators or basic statistics.
What does DMAIC mean, and how do I use it in a project?
DMAIC means Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. You frame a problem, collect appropriate data, investigate causes, test improvements and sustain the results. For existing processes, this structure helps prevent jumping directly from an assumed cause to a solution before the evidence has been examined.
How much statistics is involved in Green Belt?
Basic statistics forms part of the course because improvements need to be assessed with data. The focus is on selecting, applying and interpreting methods sensibly. You need to understand which question an analysis answers and the limitations of its data; we discuss any individual preparation needs beforehand.
Do I already need a project from my organisation?
A process example from your own work helps you apply the methods. The course covers project structure, measurement, root-cause analysis and sustaining improvements. Whether an existing project can count towards your intended PECB credential depends on the relevant certification requirements and PECB’s assessment of the evidence.
Why are the course, examination and Green Belt certification different steps?
The course prepares you for the examination and practical application. The regular PECB Green Belt also has professional and project-experience requirements. Without that evidence, the Provisional level may be appropriate after passing. The current credential that fits your profile should be clarified before the certification application.
How are the five days organised?
The full offer comprises four training days and the examination on the fifth day or at a separately agreed appointment. The full online and classroom courses follow the same subject syllabus. Select your preferred format when booking and confirm the teaching and examination schedule with us.
How does Green Belt differ from the Academy’s Black Belt?
PECB Green Belt focuses on structured improvement-project work and sound use of data. Our own Black Belt develops complex-project analysis and team leadership further. These are separate offers with different certificate issuers; an Academy award does not thereby become a PECB certification.
Can I attend Green Belt in Hungarian?
Yes. Hungarian is a planned teaching language, alongside German and English. That choice applies to the teaching. We agree the examination language and the language of official PECB materials separately before booking; selecting Hungarian teaching does not promise an examination in Hungarian.
