Professionals working in information & cybersecurity, with responsibilities appropriate to the selected course level.

Prerequisites

General knowledge of information security, information systems and security controls, compliance standards and SOC 2 principles is required.

Course structure and delivery

The full course follows the 5-day PECB agenda. Learn live with a qualified trainer through exercises, discussion and practical cases. Online and classroom delivery cover the same content. Examination scheduling is agreed in line with the course agenda.

Online sessions are delivered live using alfaview. The Odoo portal provides course information and materials. Dates, teaching language and classroom location are agreed before the course starts.

Materials, examination and certification

The full course includes official PECB training materials, tuition in the selected format and the first PECB examination attempt.

The course prepares you for the PECB examination for Lead SOC 2 Manager. After passing the exam, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. PECB assesses eligibility and awards the credential. Depending on the credential level, additional evidence of professional and relevant practical experience is required. Attendance or a passed exam alone does not guarantee the full credential.

Option: 4 hours of exam preparation

An optional four-hour live exam preparation session is available for €650. It is intended for participants who are already studying independently and does not replace the complete PECB course. Materials and examination arrangements for this option are agreed separately in advance.

Teaching and examination language

Teaching languages: German, English or Hungarian. The selected teaching language is confirmed when scheduling the course. Hungarian is a teaching language for this PECB course only and is not a promised examination language. The examination language and the language of official PECB materials are agreed separately before booking.

PECB course profile and credential requirements

Frequently asked questions about this course

What is the difference between SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2?

Type 1 relates to a point in time; Type 2 also examines operating effectiveness over a period. This matters when preparing: an established process needs evidence that it actually operated during the period covered by a Type 2 examination. Plan evidence collection early rather than assembling everything at the end.

Is SOC 2 the same as ISO/IEC 27001 certification?

No. SOC 2 produces an examination report about a described system and relevant controls, while ISO/IEC 27001 addresses an information security management system. Existing processes may support both initiatives. Still, assess their purposes, boundaries and evidence needs separately instead of assuming one automatically substitutes for the other.

Can I issue official SOC 2 reports after completing this course?

A PECB course credential does not automatically make you an authorised firm that can issue SOC 2 reports. Distinguish personal qualification from the independent examination service. Within an organisation, you can coordinate readiness, responsibilities and evidence; the formal examination remains a separate professional engagement with its own requirements.

Must a SOC 2 project treat all five categories identically?

SOC 2 distinguishes security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy. Your project needs a clear understanding of the categories included and the service being examined. Start with commitments to customers and the system’s characteristics rather than collecting as much documentation as possible without a defined purpose.

Our compliance platform shows everything as green. Are we ready for examination?

A green status can support preparation, but it does not answer every examination question. Also check whether evidence matches the agreed scope, responsible people can explain the processes and identified exceptions have been addressed. Use the platform as a working tool and question exactly what its status indicator demonstrates.

Why are policies alone often insufficient as evidence?

A policy describes what should happen. You also need a clear connection with the process in operation. For an access review, relevant information might include timing, accounts reviewed, decisions and follow-up changes. Link that evidence to the responsible people and process so someone else can understand what actually happened.

How should I account for cloud providers and other subcontractors in a SOC 2 project?

First map the external services your system depends on. Then clarify which controls sit within your own processes and what assurance you receive from partners. Aim for an understandable overall description: a contract or provider report by itself does not explain every handover or the responsibilities that remain with you.

Who should participate internally in preparing a SOC 2 project?

Involve the people who actually own the processes being described. Depending on the service, HR, purchasing, operations and senior management may matter alongside IT. Assign an owner and deadline to outstanding issues. A central project team helps coordination, but cannot replace the process responsibilities of the people involved.
