Prerequisites
A basic understanding of information security and privacy, together with comprehensive knowledge of audit principles, is required.
Schedule and learning format
Book the complete course as live online training or in-person training. Both formats follow the same syllabus. The five-day PECB agenda comprises four training days and an exam on day five or at a separately agreed time.

Materials, assessment and credential
The official PECB materials, training in the booked format, registration and the fee for the first PECB examination attempt are included. After passing the examination, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. The full PECB Lead Auditor credential requires additional evidence of professional experience and relevant audit activities. The attainable auditor credential level depends on the applicable PECB scheme and your evidence. Passing the examination alone does not guarantee the Lead Auditor title.
Additional option: 4 hours of exam preparation
The information about multi-day training applies to the full online and in-person courses. The €650 preparation option includes four hours of live exam preparation for participants studying the subject independently. It does not replace a full PECB course. Please agree materials and exam booking with us in advance.

Teaching and examination language
Teaching languages: German, English or Hungarian. The selected teaching language is confirmed when scheduling the course. Hungarian is a teaching language for this PECB course only and is not a promised examination language. The examination language and the language of official PECB materials are agreed separately before booking.

Mandatory funding advice and eligibility checks are provided by an official KOMPASS advisory centre. Only make a binding booking after the qualification voucher has been issued. Training must include at least 20 hours; not every offer meets this condition. Funding eligibility is assessed individually.
Frequently asked questions about this course
Is this course intended for privacy consultancy or auditing?
Its focus is PIMS auditing: preparation, evidence evaluation, findings and audit closure. Consultancy experience can be useful.
What knowledge do I need for Lead Auditor?
PECB expects information security and privacy fundamentals, plus comprehensive knowledge of audit principles. Foundation alone does not replace audit experience.
How does the current course differ from older 2019 training?
The revised course covers the standalone PIMS requirements in the 2025 edition. Examples, evidence and audit methods have also been updated.
May I need to assess one organisation as both controller and processor?
Yes. Determine its role for each processing activity; an organisation may hold different roles for different processing operations.
How can I tell whether privacy audit evidence is reliable?
Check that evidence is relevant, verifiable and linked to the audit criterion. A simple assertion of implementation is not enough.
Does the audit method also help with internal and supplier audits?
Yes. ISO 19011 supports internal and external management system audits. The mandate, scope and independence must fit each assignment.
Is passing the exam enough for the full Lead Auditor credential?
No. PECB also evaluates professional experience and audit activities for the requested level. A Provisional credential may fit applicants without the required evidence.
How much working time should my employer reserve?
Allow four training days plus the exam. The full course is available live online or in a classroom; four-hour preparation is not equivalent to full training.
