Prerequisites

A basic understanding of the risk management framework, process and principles is required.

Course structure and delivery

The full course follows the 5-day PECB agenda. Learn live with a qualified trainer through exercises, discussion and practical cases. Online and classroom delivery cover the same content. Examination scheduling is agreed in line with the course agenda.

Online sessions are delivered live using alfaview. The Odoo portal provides course information and materials. Dates, teaching language and classroom location are agreed before the course starts.

Materials, examination and certification

The full course includes official PECB training materials, tuition in the selected format and the first PECB examination attempt.

The course prepares you for the PECB examination for ISO 31000 Lead Risk Manager. After passing the exam, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. PECB assesses eligibility and awards the credential. Depending on the credential level, additional evidence of professional and relevant practical experience is required. Attendance or a passed exam alone does not guarantee the full credential.

Option: 4 hours of exam preparation

An optional four-hour live exam preparation session is available for €650. It is intended for participants who are already studying independently and does not replace the complete PECB course. Materials and examination arrangements for this option are agreed separately in advance.

Teaching and examination language

Teaching languages: German, English or Hungarian. The selected teaching language is confirmed when scheduling the course. Hungarian is a teaching language for this PECB course only and is not a promised examination language. The examination language and the language of official PECB materials are agreed separately before booking.

Frequently asked questions about this course

What should my goal be when choosing Lead rather than Risk Manager?

Choose Lead particularly when you need to organise and improve risk management beyond individual assessments. Consider whether your work involves common approaches, reporting routes and responsibilities. If your current task is mainly assessing individual risks systematically, the Manager focus may be closer to it.

How can I connect risk management with actual business decisions?

Choose a forthcoming decision, such as expanding a site. Ask which uncertainties could change the choice between options. Present information so decision-makers can compare alternatives. This is more useful practice than producing a risk report whose connection to the actual decision still needs to be explained.

How should I handle different risk scales across departments?

Compare what the scales mean, not just their numbers. A high impact may describe very different things in two departments. For practice, develop common criteria and documented mappings. Do not aggregate figures until there is a reasoned basis for treating them as comparable.

What makes a risk report useful for executive management?

For preparation, build a short decision brief: affected objective, key uncertainty, response options and the decision needed. Add the main assumptions and next review date. Avoid reproducing an entire spreadsheet when it offers little guidance. Readers should see what is required from them now.

How can I avoid risk management becoming a once-a-year exercise?

Look for existing decision points, such as project approvals, supplier changes or major deviations from plans. In your practice case, consider which risk review could be integrated there. Define a trigger and an owner, connecting risk work to real decisions rather than adding a meeting without clear consequences.

What is required for the regular Lead Risk Manager credential?

PECB specifies five years of professional experience, including two in risk management, plus 300 hours of relevant activity. The examination and other certification conditions must also be satisfied. Document your role and work clearly. Attending the Lead course alone does not replace that evidence or guarantee a credential level.

What personal example should I prepare for the Lead perspective?

Choose a risk affecting several departments, such as dependency on one key supplier. Describe the different objectives, affected decisions and available information, anonymising confidential details. This helps you discuss ownership and cooperation without committing too early to one particular assessment method.

How are duration, attendance and languages arranged for Lead Risk Manager?

ELA plans five days comprising four teaching days and the examination. Attend live online or in person, with German, English or Hungarian agreed as the teaching language. Examination language does not automatically follow that choice. Materials and exam languages are confirmed separately before booking.
