Practice example: who approved the new AI version?
An illustrative, fictional example created by EasyELEarning Academy. It is not an official PECB exercise or a promise that this particular case will be covered in your booked course.
Scenario
A technical support team uses an AI assistant to draft replies. After a software update, several drafts refer to outdated manuals. The team provides an approval procedure and a test report, but the report covers a different version from the application in use. Responsibility for the change remains unclear.
Task
The illustrative audit question is whether the agreed change process can be demonstrated for this use case. Ask operations, the business team and system owners questions. Connect approval criteria with version records, test evidence and the handling of reported errors. Establish whether further evidence exists before drafting a nonconformity. One incorrect draft cannot replace this assessment.
Possible result
A useful output would be an evidence matrix linking the subject, applicable criterion, reviewed source and reasoned evaluation, with targeted questions for unresolved points. A possible finding describes a demonstrated gap between the organisation’s procedure and its implementation. The course connection is audit planning, evidence evaluation and reporting on the AI management system. Improving the model itself is a different task.
Limits
This example examines a limited process and sample. It provides neither a general quality endorsement for the assistant nor a complete review of every legal requirement. Evaluating a later corrective action also requires suitable evidence of its actual implementation and effectiveness.
Who is this course for?
Auditors, AI governance professionals, compliance teams and consultants.
Prerequisites
A basic understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 and fundamental AI principles and concepts is required. Requirements for the subsequent PECB certification grade are assessed separately.
Schedule and learning format
Book the complete course as live online training or in-person training. Both formats follow the same syllabus. The five-day PECB agenda comprises four training days and an exam on day five or at a separately agreed time.
- Choose your format and agree the schedule
- Work through the materials, practise and discuss your questions
- Complete the assessment and meet the credential requirements
Materials, assessment and credential
The official PECB materials, training in the booked format, registration and the fee for the first PECB examination attempt are included. After passing the examination, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. The full PECB Lead Auditor credential requires additional evidence of professional experience and relevant audit activities. The attainable auditor credential level depends on the applicable PECB scheme and your evidence. Passing the examination alone does not guarantee the Lead Auditor title.
Additional option: 4 hours of exam preparation
The information about multi-day training applies to the full online and in-person courses. The €650 preparation option includes four hours of live exam preparation for participants studying the subject independently. It does not replace a full PECB course. Please agree materials and exam booking with us in advance.

Frequently asked questions about this course
Am I auditing an AI model or a management system?
The focus is the organisation’s AI management system. A successful audit is not a blanket assurance that every model works without errors.
Do I need to be a data scientist first?
PECB instead specifies fundamental knowledge of ISO/IEC 42001 and AI principles and concepts. Your technical understanding should fit the audits you undertake.
How do interviews become defensible audit findings?
Link statements to verifiable evidence and specific audit criteria. Consider sampling and its limitations when drawing conclusions.
Why is a good model metric insufficient for assessing governance?
AI risks also depend on deployment context, affected people and ongoing monitoring. A single metric does not fully explain these relationships.
Can I immediately issue accredited organisational certificates after the course?
No. A personal qualification does not make you a certification body. Bodies certifying AI management systems have their own competence and process requirements.
What role do impacts on people play in an audit?
Consider whether potential impacts are identified, evaluated and documented. ISO/IEC 42005 offers complementary guidance on these AI impact assessments.
Can I obtain the Lead Auditor credential without audit hours?
PECB requires relevant professional experience and audit activities for full Lead status. After passing the exam, Provisional may be appropriate without the required evidence.
What does the academy’s five-day booking include?
The full course includes four training days and the exam. Choose live online or classroom delivery; we separately agree the schedule, teaching language and exam language beforehand.
