Prerequisites
A basic understanding of ISO/IEC 27005 and comprehensive knowledge of risk management and information security are required.
Course structure and delivery
The full course follows the 5-day PECB agenda. Learn live with a qualified trainer through exercises, discussion and practical cases. Online and classroom delivery cover the same content. Examination scheduling is agreed in line with the course agenda.
Online sessions are delivered live using alfaview. The Odoo portal provides course information and materials. Dates, teaching language and classroom location are agreed before the course starts.
Materials, examination and certification
The full course includes official PECB training materials, tuition in the selected format and the first PECB examination attempt.
The course prepares you for the PECB examination for ISO/IEC 27005:2022 Lead Risk Manager. After passing the exam, you can apply for the corresponding PECB credential. PECB assesses eligibility and awards the credential. Depending on the credential level, additional evidence of professional and relevant practical experience is required. Attendance or a passed exam alone does not guarantee the full credential.
Option: 4 hours of exam preparation
An optional four-hour live exam preparation session is available for €650. It is intended for participants who are already studying independently and does not replace the complete PECB course. Materials and examination arrangements for this option are agreed separately in advance.
Teaching and examination language
Teaching languages: German, English or Hungarian. The selected teaching language is confirmed when scheduling the course. Hungarian is a teaching language for this PECB course only and is not a promised examination language. The examination language and the language of official PECB materials are agreed separately before booking.

PECB course profile and credential requirements
Frequently asked questions about this course
When is the Lead perspective useful compared with Risk Manager?
Lead is particularly relevant when you need to coordinate and improve an organisation-wide approach rather than perform individual analyses. Bring prior security-risk experience to that work. Choose according to your responsibilities; a higher course title alone creates neither decision authority nor an automatic regular Lead credential.
What prior knowledge does PECB expect for the Lead course?
PECB expects a basic understanding of ISO/IEC 27005 and comprehensive knowledge of risk management and information security. Prepare an anonymised case whose assessment you can explain. Lead training should deepen existing knowledge; memorising exam questions alone cannot compensate for missing foundations.
How can I identify improvements in an existing risk management process?
Follow one risk through its internal journey: recording, decision, response and later review. Note broken handovers, unclear ownership and assumptions that were never updated. Use those observations to define a manageable improvement. A completely new software tool is not necessarily the first useful step.
How can I compare security risks across business units?
First check whether identically named impact levels describe the same consequences. Equal scores may conceal different assumptions. For preparation, compare two cases using clearly shared descriptions of effects. Make remaining differences visible rather than allowing arithmetic aggregation to make them appear to disappear.
How can I translate technical risks into a useful management brief?
NIST explains the role of business impacts in prioritising security risks. In your own practice case, start with the affected business activity rather than a vulnerability identifier. Explain potential disruption, information consequences and available options, then state the decision needed and the assumptions that remain uncertain.
Are a few years of IT experience enough for full Lead certification?
Not every IT role automatically satisfies the relevant experience requirements. PECB specifies five years of professional experience, including two in information security risk management, plus 300 hours of related work. Examination and other conditions also apply. Review your actual activities and evidence before planning on a particular credential.
How can an experienced practitioner learn beyond simply revising definitions?
Compare two reasoned assessments of the same fictional security case. Ask which assumptions explain their differences and what information could change the decision. This strengthens reasoning more than repeating definitions. Use original cases rather than confidential documents or materials claiming to reproduce real examination questions.
How are the five days and Hungarian teaching option organised?
ELA includes four teaching days and the examination in the five-day offering. Teaching is live online or in person. Hungarian can be agreed as the teaching language alongside German or English. Available examination and official-material languages are confirmed independently before booking.
