Curriculum & Assessment Programme

Individual Business English Coaching – Curriculum and Competence Check

Your work determines the content: a customer conversation, negotiation, meeting or demanding team exchange. Observable goals are agreed at the outset; at the end you demonstrate performance in new, comparable tasks.

Individual Business English Coaching – Curriculum and Competence Check

Audience and entry requirements

Who is this programme for?

Professionals and managers with specific workplace communication needs who want individual feedback.

What are the entry requirements?

Your language starting point, work tasks and realistic goals are agreed before booking. No external language certificate is required. You should be willing to practise with work samples and apply feedback.

Scope and learning format

10 weeks with four subject modules and four live sessions. Session lengths, total hours and the 30-minute final assessment window are specified before booking. Coaching goals and assessed task types are agreed in writing at the outset.

Which competencies will you demonstrate?

  • Complete two agreed workplace communication tasks in English purposefully.
  • Match message, vocabulary and register to your role and audience.
  • Clarify, rephrase and confirm outcomes when understanding is incomplete.
  • Respond to spontaneous follow-up questions and explain the limits of your knowledge.
  • Apply feedback in a new task and a practical transfer plan.

The curriculum

1. Define goals and workplace situations

Initial language review, selection of two professional task types and observable success criteria.

Scope / allocation

Weeks 1–2; first live session as scheduled.

Evidence and output

An agreed objective matrix and an ungraded initial task.

2. Practise the first target task

Develop and test vocabulary, organisation and communication strategies for a priority task.

Scope / allocation

Weeks 3–5; second live session as scheduled.

Evidence and output

A work sample or role-play with personal feedback and a revised version.

3. Practise interaction and difficult situations

Ask clarifying questions, resolve misunderstandings, explain views, respond to objections and confirm agreements.

Scope / allocation

Weeks 6–8; third live session as scheduled.

Evidence and output

A new conversation with follow-up questions and documented improvement goals.

4. Demonstrate transfer and plan further learning

Complete two comparable new tasks independently, reflect on results and set practical next steps.

Scope / allocation

Weeks 9–10; fourth live session with final assessment window as scheduled.

Evidence and output

Two assessed work samples and an individual transfer plan.

How your work is assessed

Weighting: 50 %

Individual target task 1

A new task from the agreed workplace profile, such as a customer conversation, short presentation or email with an explanation.

15 minutes

  • Communication objective and agreed brief:35%.
  • Clarity and logical structure:25%.
  • Appropriate vocabulary and register:20%.
  • Response to follow-up questions or reasoned explanation of language choices:20%.

Weighting: 50 %

Individual target task 2

A second new task of a different agreed type; at least one final task must involve spoken interaction.

15 minutes

  • Communication objective and agreed brief:35%.
  • Clarity and logical structure:25%.
  • Appropriate vocabulary and register:20%.
  • Response to follow-up questions or reasoned explanation of language choices:20%.

Pass requirements

The Academy assessment certificate requires at least 70 out of 100 weighted overall points and at least 60% in every assessment component. The initial diagnostic task is not graded. These thresholds are Academy programme rules, not pass marks prescribed by ISO/IEC17024. Failed components may be retaken under the general Academy assessment rules.

Language work samples use a 0–4 scale for each criterion: 0 = not demonstrated; 1 = severely limited and task not achieved; 2 = partly achieved with substantial ambiguity; 3 = mostly achieved independently and intelligibly; 4 = achieved confidently, clearly and appropriately. The component result is the weighted criterion score divided by 4 and expressed as a percentage. Accent-free speech is not a criterion; intelligibility and task achievement matter.

Permitted resources and AI

Task-specific aids are agreed in advance with the objective matrix. Your own cue cards, approved templates or a glossary may be permitted. Generative AI, automatic translation and coaching during the final task are excluded. Third-party or confidential work materials may only be used lawfully and with personal data minimised.

Identity and independent work

Before the final check, the invigilator verifies identity against a valid photo identification document. For live-online assessment, this is checked personally during the video appointment. A copy of the document or a recording is not required solely for this check.

The common assessment rules also cover retakes, reasonable adjustments, appeals, confidentiality and certificate authorisation.

Assessment and Certificate Rules

What your certificate demonstrates

Academy Assessment Certificate in Individual Business English Coaching

Scope of the credential
Records programme ELA-PRG-IBC and the specific professional task types agreed and successfully assessed. The individual objective matrix defines the scope.
How to interpret the qualification
Not a blanket assessment of general English competence and not an automatic CEFR level award. Other workplace task types are not automatically covered by this individual check.
Assessment date and currency
Under Academy policy, this certificate is valid for a maximum of three years from its date of issue. It is issued only after all programme and assessment requirements have been met and the award decision has been documented. The validity period does not start on enrolment or at the beginning of the course. The actual validity period and expiry date are stated on the certificate; a shorter period applies only when expressly specified in the relevant course or assessment programme. There is no automatic extension. Renewal requires a documented review of current knowledge and application appropriate to the programme, using recent evidence and/or a suitable update or competence assessment. Repurchasing the entire course is not a blanket requirement. A renewed Academy certificate is also valid for no more than three years from its issue date. Attendance and passing an assessment remain verifiable historical facts tied to their dates; they do not provide indefinite validity as evidence of current competence.

This programme applies to deliveries whose agreed course and assessment plan explicitly references this revision. Existing bookings retain their agreed terms.

Programme questions

Can the content be tailored to my role?

Yes. Two professional task types and their success criteria are agreed in writing at the start. This keeps the coaching individual and the assessment traceable.

Is assessment based on progress or actual performance?

Progress is discussed in feedback. The assessment certificate requires independent final performance against the agreed criteria; improvement compared with your starting point does not replace that assessment.

Can I bring confidential customer conversations or documents?

Only with appropriate authorisation. Prefer anonymised or fictional examples and remove personal and confidential details beforehand.

Will I know the complete final task in advance?

You will know the task types and criteria. The specific new case is provided in the assessment window so that independent application, rather than a memorised answer, is assessed.

What does the certificate state?

The programme, scope in the course plan, assessment date, programme version and professional task types assessed. It makes no claim of a general language level.
